At one point, Racal Electronics Group was the third-largest electronics firm in the United Kingdom. Racal was a manufacturer of voice loggers, lab instruments, data recorders, military electronics, and radar components. The brand originally got its start as Racal Ltd. in 1950. In 1977, Racal Electronics Group purchased Dana Labs, founded in California, and created Racal-Dana Inc. Racal manufactured test equipment under this brand name until 1990, when it changed its name to Racal Instruments Inc. In 2000, Thomason-CSF acquired all the Racal Electronics Group companies and changed the name to Thales. Engineers look to sites like ValueTronics.com to buy used and refurbished Racal-Dana products.
