Pen Recorders

Pen recorders are measuring instruments that record changes in electrical signals over extended periods of time on paper. Since HIOKI launched a pioneering MEMORY HiCORDER that recorded electrical signals as digital data in 1983, digital recorders have become the dominant instruments of their kind. Nonetheless, there continues to be robust demand for print output from pen recorders due to its suitability as a medium for long-term storage of recorded waveforms and its resistance to tampering by overwriting, an important consideration in applications where data is collected and submitted to government agencies.

Principle Applications

Pen recorders are used to record analog output signals from electronic equipment and electrode potentials measured in electrochemistry. They are also used in maintenance of galvanic protection systems. When current flows through a metal object such as a gas pipe that is buried underground or placed underwater, a series of chemical reactions can lead to the progressive corrosion of the metal. Pen recorders are used to take measurements in the maintenance of galvanic corrosion prevention systems, which vary the potential of metal in order to prevent such corrosion.
