A spectrum analyzer measures the power of spectrums of known and unknown signals. Spectrum analyzers collect information such as the magnitude of an input signal compared to its frequency. This tool’s spectral analysis involves signals such as optical light waves and acoustic pressure waves.
Using a spectrum analyzer enables you to analyze spectral components of a signal you cannot observe easily in time domain waveforms. These include dominant frequency, harmonics, bandwidth, power, and distortion. Spectrum analyzers are useful in characterizing electronic devices such as wireless transmitters.
